Foamy bowel movements can be due to rectal mucus exiting with the stool. The colon contains mucus to allow bowel movements to exit more easily, a bit like a lubricant. It can look a little foamy when seen in the toilet bowl.

However, there could be an underlying health issue with this foam. It could mean there is too much fat coming out due to intestinal issues including celiac disease or issues with the pancreas. These issues can also cause loose bowels.

Talk to your doctor for further advice.
