I'm sorry, I had to stop laughing so that I could read the rest of your post - I'm a "flasher," too, and we're about the same age and I had a tubal ligation to upset my body (in an effort to settle it down). A cyst on your ovary is definitely nothing insignificant; my younger sister had a partial hysterectomy done because of a similar situation.
I'm glad you finally made the move to share your story. It's really hard to have to wait so long for a doctor's appointment and try to deal with the menopause craziness.
Something I've learned to do is use humor to deflect what I might be feeling at the moment. Personally, I cannot take meds/HRT. When you got your results over the phone, were you also given any guidance or recommendations about treatment until you see your OB/GYN?
