Dear Mom of twins,

How great is it that you are 51 and that you have 7-year-old twins?! You must feel very blessed. When I was going through menopause I gained 10 pounds overnight. I was not eating anything different, and I was still exercising. It is what I refer to as "Sponge Bob Syndrome." I'm sure you're asking "what is Sponge Bob Syndrome?" It's like your body has an extra layer of fat on it--it's almost like insulation. It's water that gets trapped in between the layers of the dermis. You might notice that your jeans are too tight or your shoes don't fit, or your watch makes an impression on your wrist. Those are all signs of Sponge Bob Syndrome! I remember the days when I went into my closet and tried to put on a pair of jeans, and five pairs of jeans later, I still couldn't find one that fit. I've never had a weight issue my entire life. Then once I got my hormones balanced, which took a year to do, all of the sudden that extra weight just came right off of me. It was as if one day I went to bed with that weight gain, and the next day it was gone. I'm not saying that this will be the case for everyone, but that is what happened with me. Also, have you thought about getting your thyroid checked? Sometimes you think it might be hormones, but sometimes it can really be a thyroid issue. What I would recommend that you do is have the necessary blood work done to check all of your hormone levels, including your thyroid. Remember blood work only--no saliva tests. It is the best way and the most cost effective and the most consistent way of getting the results that you need. You can also go to www.herplace.com. Dr. Vliet has all of the blood tests listed on this site, and you can actually print them off and take them to your doctor. Please let us know how you are doing. Whatever you do, try not to get too frustrated--I know how upsetting and frustrating this can be. You can get answers to what is going on with you; you just have to find them. Please don't give up! Best in health, Michelle
