The town square used to be the center of all community activity. These days, it can be hard to figure out where the center of town actually is.

However, with improved roads and all the local development, one lovely town square is now a lot closer than it used to be, and easier to reach. What used to take nearly half an hour to get to now takes around 10 minutes. Early every Saturday morning since March, I've been joining a running group that meets at our favorite running store just off town square and we take various routes around town and along the river. Every other weekend through summer, there is a community festival of one sort or another, so we get to do a little shopping and chatting after our run.

My DH and I have been trying to figure out where to retire, and I'm discovering why some of our friends opted to move to that little town. I have even run from the Square to the golf course where our friends live!

I miss living in San Francisco, where we could walk to the market and run all our errands. This little town around the square has a similar draw, and a charm all its own.

It's good for the soul, like Tina said, to be able to enjoy community like this.
