Another aspect of the 'grave defense' is that in addition to SAVING health care costs, one expert from that era said that tobacco companies were generating additional revenue for municipalities through sales taxes or so the argument goes.
The article probably was somewhat sensationalized, however any thing that gets people like us thinking and analyzing information to probe deeper can't be too bad.
