hi, i had an ELISA 4th gen test abot 26 months after exposure at a private lab (jan 20011), but just abot a month ago i started having joint pain, muscle aches, swollen tonsils and surfing the web i saw hiv symptoms, so i got really scared and anxious, sometimes i can't even sleep...what can i do to accept the fact that my test is negative? because i started thinking they probably made a mistake or the machine..or they just didn't do my test well, etc thanks

Hi RebecaV,

I'm sorry you were exposed to HIV two years ago. How far after being exposed were you tested? Were you also treated for HIV after exposure?

Joint pain, muscle aches, swollen tonsils are not specific to HIV so try not to let this consume you. The ELISA test is initially done and if that comes out positive, then the confirmatory Western Blot test is done. If it is negative, then no further testing is done.

It would be wise to see your doctor due to your symptoms either way-- and if you would like to bring up your HIV scare, you can do so as well to see what your doctor's thoughts are on that.

Wishing you the best,

Rosa

Well y did my test after more than 24 months, so i knew they did a 4Th gen test, and it came back negative....so that's is why i am worried i do not see a reason for my test to be different than that, but i hear some labs could do mistakes, so i got really really anxious and scared that's when all my aches begin to rise...
