Could I be pregnant?

I lost my virginity 8 days ago, sex was unprotected and he cummed in me 4 times. He was on top most of the time, we did doggy and it was hardcore. I was on my period, but it was towards the end of my cycle; I was bleeding during intercourse (it was my period not my virginity because I broke that when being fingered. Within 3 hours I had taken the morning after pill. The next day I bled a little dark, red thick blood and I didn't bleed after that. Since then I have felt extremely bloated and gassy, I even hear my stomach grumbelling. I wanted to take a pregnancy test but was told it wouldn't be accurate because I'm 3 weeks away from my period. Could I be pregnant? Please help, I'm really scared!

I'm trying so hard not to freak out, but it's just that I have exams real soon and I can't afford to mess them up. I totally agree with what you said about when everything seems a sign of pregnancy when you're freaking out- it's just the cramps that are worrying me because I was reading up on it and came across the same thing over again- pains in the sides of your lower stomach could mean that an egg has been fertilised in the ferllopian tube which could lead to complications. It's almost as though I regret having sex because I don't believe in sex before marriage, but I really love this guy that I'm with. I guess I am just going to have to wait. Thanks for your support!

Hi Zee,
I agree that a pregnancy test won't be accurate right now, but I wanted to tell you my story, because I just went through something similar! I had unprotected sex and took Plan B/The morning after pill within 72 hours. My period was supposed to come the week that I had unprotected sex and I got it the same day that I took Plan B, but I was still FREAKING OUT. You should get your period a week before or a week after when you would normally expect it. Since you just had it, it should still come on time, if not early, or a little bit late. I spent the entire last month wondering if I was pregnant and took a bunch of pregnancy tests to see if I was--but they're all going to come up negative until you miss a period (or a few days before). Last week I got my second period (after Plan B), on time, as expected. Plan B is pretty effective if you take it within the allotted time, which you did! (Yay). Bloating/Gas doesn't mean you're pregnant. It's going to feel like a looooong wait while you wait for your period (sorry!). Try not to stress about it though because it will delay your period. Everything can seem like a sign of pregnancy when you're worried about it. You can test a few days before you expect your period (I recommend First Response for pregnancy tests: they come in packs of 3 so you can re-test). Hang tight.

Is there nothing I can do to find out whether I'm pregnant, maybe a blood test? Is it true that if you're at the end of your cycle when having sex then the chances of becoming pregnant is low?

Sorry Zee, even a blood test would not give you an accurate result. Perhaps if you waited another week (at least) you could try testing but there is really no point in stressing out over it if you have taken an emergency contraceptive since your symptoms are actually side effects of the morning after pill, not that of pregnancy.

Although most women are not ovulating at the end of their cycle, there is no safe time of the month to have unprotected sex. So, yes your chances are lower--however, that doesn't mean you can't get pregnant by having sex at the end of your period.

Hi Zee,

You will not get an accurate pregnancy result if you take it now, since it has only been 8 days since. Morning after pills tend to cause side effects that seems like you're experiencing.

Side effects of Next Choice can be found here, under Important Information: http://mynextchoice.com/

For accurate pregnancy results, please wait until your period is missed (if it is).

Good luck,

Rosa

I also have cramps in my lower stomach- both in the sides and middle.
