Hi also have had my tubes tied for 7 years now. I have been having symptons but I know how the mind can play tricks at times also. I haven't seen my period since August 19th and it is now Nov 11th, I have skipped and had irregular cycles before due to weight and stress, I am an obese 31 year old but it has never went 3 months missed. I have slightly sore breasts and slight cramps like my cycle wants to come but it doesn't. I am more fatigued and I just started my dieting and excercise so I can get back in shape. I don't have insurance so I haven't visited my obgyn but if it doesn't come by the end of this month then I will go to planned parenthood. I did do 2 home pregnancy test and both were negative so I am perplexed on what to do next. Help!!!!

Hi Anon,

Thank you for turning to the EmpowHER community with your question! I certainly don't blame you for feeling perplexed and worried! According to my math you are 2 weeks late, yet the pregnancy test should be accurate if you took it 5 days ago. You can get a false positive home pregnancy test if you test too early, but you tested at the right time.

Pregnancy is possible even though you have had your tubes tied. Here is some information on the effectiveness of a tubal ligation:

There is a slight risk of becoming pregnant after tubal ligation. This happens to about 5 per 1,000 women after 1 year. After a total of 10 years following tubal ligation, about 18 per 1,000 women will have become pregnant.

Pregnancy may occur if:

The tubes grow back together or a new passage forms (recanalization) that allows an egg to be fertilized by sperm or if the surgery was not done correctly.

I'm just perplexed that the hpt is coming back negative and you still haven't had a period. Have you called your OB? I would take another test and then call your OB if it is still negative and no period.

Anon, how old are you? Could you be experiencing menopause? Early symptoms of menopause is irregular periods or no period at all...What do you think?

Here is an article on menopause symptoms https://www.empowher.com/community/share/common-symptoms-menopause

Anon, please keep in touch. If you take another test, let me know. Also, if you call your doctor let me know what he or she says.

Did this information help?

Best,

Kristin
