Hello,
I am so happy I found this website and have many friends I can share it with.
I am looking for a Menapause doctor that is open to natural/preventive care.
Any advice or websites where I can search?

Thank you!

Pat always has great advise. I would like to add to check your insurance if that is how you are going to pay for your appointment. No need to full in love with the perfect Doc and then find out she is not on your plan. The same holds true for alternative care. Does your insurance pay and how much. Some policies have a dollar cap or a visit cap on alternative care. The good news is we are almost to the end of the year and you may be able to adjust your coverage for 2011!

Great advice Haralee! I would just add that sometimes you need to pay out of pocket to get the type of care you really need. Too many people who think nothing of spending a lot of money on things like expensive dinners will balk when it comes to spending money out of pocket for healthcare. Good grief! If you lose your health the rest will not matter.

Gosh, I am thinking I may need to be more detailed about what I am looking for. I do believe my health is the #1 important thing in my life and will not hesitate to pay out of pocket to see really good alternative doctors. And what I'm really looking for is a regular doctor or gynocologist that is open to how I practice preventative/alternative self-care. I hope this helps you to help me find someone. And thank you so much for any advice!

Flea- You already provided the right information, and the answer to your question is in my initial comment. You are going to have to do the leg work to locate the right doctor in your local community. Good luck!

Hi flea - Thanks for your question and welcome to EmpowHER. You have a number of options for finding a doctor who can assist you with natural and alternative treatments for menopause.

One is to do an online search for gynecologists in your area and then drill down into the information provided on their websites to see if they provide the services you are seeking.

Another option is to search for a physician in your area through a national organization such as the American Association of Naturopathic Physicians http://www.naturopathic.org/
or the American Holistic Medicine Association. http://www.holisticmedicine.org/

Hope that helps!
