I took half of one Oxycodone pill, and my period came 12 days late. I took it a week before it was due to come. I have had regular periods and I am not on birth control; 32, no kids.

Actually, it is a side effect ... I've had the exact same thing happen to me... And once I stopped taking it, my period returned ... It's more common than you think... Because once I had to go back on them? My period stopped again :/

I've been on pain meds for about 11 months due to herniated discs in my back. I had 2 microdisectomy's and after my second surgery I noticed that my periods became irregular. I took 6 pregnancy test one every week and there all negative. I'm also lactaiding from one breast. I'm off of the Oxycodone and on Norco's now and Ms Cotin. I'm not sure what's going on. I talked to my doctor and he says its the meds. I'm worried I may be pregnant but it's to soon to tell. My periods 2 weeks late. What can I do? I'm in pain 24-7 and need my pain meds. ????

My doctor told me that missing or completely stopping having periods IS in fact a possible side effect of oxycontin. I take very high doses though, due to chronic neck and back pain I've had for many years due to lots of conditions: 3 herniated discs, stenosis, nerve damage, etc. Anyway I have been on oxycontin over 7 years and have not had a period in over 6 years. I am now 35 so was only in my late 20s when my periods stopped. Luckily I never wanted children, but I feel bad for those who do and have menstrual problems due to oxycontin.

I have been taking oxycodone on and off for about a week since I had my surgery ,I always had irregular periods I've had a surgery to remove a tumor on my ovarie .since then I've was put on birth control to help regulate my cycle for a year and it did regulate . Ever since I've been taken the oxycodone my cycle has been out of control I've been extremely heavy to the point where I wouldn't want to leave home . I didn't realize this drug had soo many side effects ... I have definitely had some mood swings ..not really having an appetite . Insomnia ..depression ....now I know I must stop taking this at once!

I was diagnosed with polycystic ovaries in my late teens (I was and continue to be very small framed and lean contrary to most descriptions of those affected by PCOS) and prescribed birth control pills to reduce the size of cyst that covered one ovary entirely and a large portion of the other. Due to side effects of the birth control pills (depression, weight gain, etc) I discontinued them... They didn't do much to regulate my periods anyway. For over a decade I was experienced extremely irregular cycles, very light and occurring randomly no more than four times a year. Despite this I did become pregnant at age 30, but the abnormal cycles and almost absent menses persisted.
Around the age of 34 I began seeing a pain management specialist for for unrelated , chronic pain I had also experienced for decades. It seemed that as my pain was becoming managed (although it was still not managed adequately at that time) my menstrual cycle became more regular than before, as if my reproductive cycle could finally begin to work as pain was lessened. It took 10 years of failed attempts to get pregnant the first time at age 30. But after I began a regular and adequate regime of narcotic pain medications, my cycles became very regular and I easily became pregnant and delivered two healthy babies 18 months apart, at age 39 and 41! I am now 42, my pain is being managed relatively well by Butrans patch and oxycodone. My periods have been like clockwork over the past three years... Until this past month. During the past thirty days I have had 3 cycles. This change occurred almost simultaneously to an increase of the dosage of my oxycodone from 10mg pills to 15mg pills.
I am sharing this because I find it so intriguing that this medication 1.) obviously has a profound affect upon female reproduction and 2.) the effects can obviously be extremely varied.
Hopefully someone will do more research on the phenomena we have experienced.

This was similar to my experience. I was taking Percocet for a broken wrist and got a crampy, nauseated period lasting 1 day shortly after having taken two Percocet ib 2 1/2hrs plus one NSAID to manage pain shortly after 1st surgery.( Am average weight and suspect I have ovarian cysts due to the odd horridly painful period over the years). This 1-day period was over in a day. Then 5 days later it feels like I'm peeing myself and a 3-day period starts 10 days early with a lot of thin bright red blood. Today is the day my period ought to have arrived, and my breasts feel a bit sore and bloated. I am currently switched down to extra-strength Tylenol and Advil (OTC NSAID) and hoping above not precursor to third unwanted period.

I have only been taking it for a few months and at low doses for pain since I fractured three bones in my foot. I take 1-2 tabs per day combined with ibuprofen. My period is always pretty regular but I am 13 days late and I just took a test and it was negative so I just looked it up and found this site and a few others. I am curious too if this is why I have missed my period?

I'm 34 and I've been on oxycontin for about 5 years now and I stopped having periods a few months after starting it and haven't had one since. I am on pretty high dosages though, as it has gradually been increased over the last few years. I have severe chronic neck and back pain which is progressive. I also take muscle relaxers and other meds. Luckily though, I've never wanted children anyway, so not having my period or pms for the last 5 years or so has been a blessing to me! I know it's a big problem for some women though.
