Also, I used to have oily skin and had to wash my hair daily before I was on the oxycodone. My skin was clear and I could go days without washing my hair. Now I'm back to oily skin and I must wash my hair daily or it gets greasy. Oxycodone DEFINITELY depletes your hormones if high amounts are taken on a regular basis. I'll never touch that great, yet horrible drug again. I'd rather live in pain as I am now. It sucks but no less than being a puppet dependent on a pill. It wouldn't be so bad if the withdrawls weren't so horrid. I didn't take them to get high, just to have some pain relief. I wouldn't say I was addicted but I was definitely dependent. That's why you see all the addicts everywhere. I have zero desire to ever take that evil drug again. Perhaps short term after a surgery but that's it. The longer you take it the longer it'll take your body to get back to its regular balance. What a nightmare it was for a few months. So happy and blessed to feel normal again, even though the pain sucks.

I was taking 120 -150 mg of oxycodone daily and after 3 months, my period stopped. I had ALWAYS been regular and stopped taking the oxycodone after a year and a half. I didn't taper and didn't want to go through horrible withdrawls so I asked my doctor for methadone. I did the 5 day taper method that drug addicts often use even though I was prescribed them for legitimate pain. Anyhow, the first week wasn't so bad but after my GI tract was a total mess for about a month, started having severe panic attacks then finally, after two months since stopping the oxycodone, my period returned. A few of my friends that I know take that drug had similar issues with their period stopping. It happens more often than is reported, I believe.

I've been on oxycodone for 3 years, and I haven't had a period in the last 9 months. I am only 21 but have a very bad back condition and take 120-150mg's a day. I have been so so worried about it, as I want to one day have children... Do you guys think if I get off this medication, my period will come back? It does make me feel a tad better to hear other people have had the same issue. Good Luck everyone!

I've actually had the same problem, no period in the past 6 months and I take oxycodone regularly. Upon my research online, I am finding many sites that list amenorrhea or irregular periods as a rare side effect of oxycodone. I was shocked! But yes, it does cause it...try googling it. Also noticed that it is most common in ages 30-39 and use of medication for 2-5 years.

It is important for women to understand cause/effect, and not use "google" as a credible source of information (it depends what Google displays, as far as resources).

As mentioned above, it may be more likely that the cause of amenorrhea is not from the medication, but rather from the original condition (ie, the reason for oxycodone) that can be leading to amenorrhea. Either way, if a woman missed 3 or more consecutive periods, it is important to talk to her doctor (and not speculate what the cause may be).

It is interesting that oxycodone use for 2-5 years would be mentioned, as this is an exceptionally long time for this type of drug, and would lead me to believe that there are other systemic reasons for amenorrhea.

I Like most the women here have experienced a missed period while on oxycodone. This, however is my first month missing my period and I have only been taking it for the past month. I'm only 17 as well. I guess it could be all the stress that my bodies been under from breaking my leg and shattering my knee and having to have surgery. I did read that oxycodone can cause a missed period, although it's rare.

Hi Anonymous,
Thank you for your comment. There are many side effects from narcotic use as shown above. Thank you for input and I hope you find a better way to deal with your pain.

Good luck and best in health.

This is the first month that I missed a period while on oxycodone. I've always had a very regular menstrual cycle. So this scared me and I've cut down the doses to only one a day before bed, even though I'm in a lot of pain with out it. They've caused a lot of bad side effects with me.I've been depressed, really emotionally on edge, and have had a lot of trouble with my bowels as well. I do NOT suggest using this medication if it can be helped. I'd just as soon smoke cannabis, so much safer, if I didn't have to stay clean for work.

I Have also had mentraul cycle issues from oxycodone. I am wondering as well, if it is common to have no periods after taking oxycodone. I am not pregnant and have not had a regular period since the first month on the medication. Now, about 8 month's later, I have not had my period. It's going on 4 months now and I am curious to hear from other woman!
