I'm on depo provera, and I know that makes one's period irregular, but mine is usually very light. Sometimes, it lasts for up to a month though--but always very light, nearly nonexistent.
But last night, while in the shower, I was shaving and there was this sudden gush of blood. There was so much of it that it looked like I'd killed someone. Something like a large blood clot came out (dark red, gooey), and I bled for little over what I'm guessing is an hour and it stopped completely. Previous to this, I had been bleeding very lightly (brown-ish blood, requiring only one or two panty liners a day) for almost three weeks.
Then, this morning, I stood up to get ready for work and it gushed again--very suddenly. It soaked through the liner I wore to bed, my panties, and my shorts, running down my legs and onto the carpet (in a new apartment, no less) in only a few seconds. I ran to the bathroom, where I was confined for little over two hours this time. When it stopped, I attempted to get ready for work again and just arrive late. However, discussing the scenario and what it could be with my boyfriend, I fainted. Not just once, but two more times trying to get back to bed to lie down. I made sure to eat and get some sleep, by the way.
Furthermore, I tried using a tampon, and it leaked right through that instantly too, and the tampon wasn't "in there" very securely either (normally, I have no trouble keeping even the small light tampons in, but this time, I didn't feel tight enough to keep it in for long, and it came out far too easily--and, get this--clean except for a little of the brown blood despite that I was bleeding bright red blood. I suppose I could say that I feel "open." In the past, I've had a medical abortion, and recognize the feeling.
I am pretty prone to back pain, and have had cramps this past month. I've been thinking that it may have been a miscarriage somehow. I keep pretty current on my shots, but I'm open to any suggestions right now.
Several hours later, I haven't fainted or bled any more, but I have a headache and can't seem to stop shaking when I walk. If it helps, I was also born anemic, recently moved (and did a lot of the heavy stuff by myself), and haven't been eating well the past week or two. I'm 5'5" and weigh about 125 pounds.

You need to call your doctor right away. Bleeding in this manner (extremely heavy, sudden and sporadic) while also fainting, shaking and having a headache...these are signs that you may be losing too much blood.
Honestly, I am surprised that neither your boyfriend or any of your co-workers suggested that you should go to the hospital, since you are bleeding AND fainting AND shaking AND have a headache.
Please keep us updated on your condition. If you are still having ANY symptoms...you need to go to the hospital or walk-in clinic TODAY.

Thanks. Actually, it's been over twenty-four hours since the last "episode" and I feel fine--hungry a lot, but otherwise fine. No bleeding at all, no dizziness, no fainting, no shaking, no headaches. I know I lost a lot of blood, so I've been trying to eat healthy foods (and more often than I had).
Any ideas on what it could have been? I was thinking that it may have been a miscarriage. Cancer and diabetes also run in my family.

I am glad to hear that you are feeling better, but you still need to call your doctor for an appointment. I can't begin to speculate what it might have been without knowing your medical history, test results, etc...as you said there are so many possibilities! It is important to know if you have any cysts, fibroids...or if it was a miscarriage, you need to be seen to make sure you are healing properly (there may be leftover tissue, and you would need your hormone levels checked).
Please call your doctor today, and let us know about your test results and appointment!
