I took 2 plan b pills 14 hours after unprotected sex and bled heavily for 6 days after that. Does it mean I'm safe now? Why do I still have to wait until I get my next period? I thought implantation will not occur once the lining has been shed?

Hi laurel,
The shed of the lining occurs when you get your period. Then, most women ovulate between day 11-21 of a cycle. Counting from day 1 of your period. The bleeding you had might had been from plan B. Bleeding is one of the side effects of any emergency pill. Anytime you have unprotected sex on your fertile days, your chances for pregnancy to occur are higher. If you took plan B as directed, there is a LOWER chance for pregnancy, but it's never 100%.

I had the same as Laurel did. so the bleeding you get after plan b isn't the shedding of the lining? Does bleeding indicates the pill has worked?

Hi Anon,
Most women after taking an emergency pill will experience, nausea, breast tenderness, cramping and bleeding. The bleeding might not be your period. Emergency pills are not 100% safe. If you want to take a pregnancy test, that's why you should wait until your next period is due.

But you shed the lining when you bleed, correct? so how is it still possible for implantation to take place?
