Menopause is sucking the life out of me

Ok - so after months of joining this site I am finally going to ask a question instead of trying to find it on my own. I am 33 yrs old and when I was 29 I had ovarian cancer. Now I know I should feel happy that I did survive it and I am but that cancer put me into menopause and that is sucking the life out of me. I had a total hysterectomy everything gone. I haven't slept in 4 yrs, my hair is falling out and of course my sex life doesn't exist anymore. It's hard for me to express my feelings to my family and friends because my menopause was not naturally and people just don't understand what menopause actually does to you. I know that some people don't have any problems with it but I feel like my 30's and 40's are gone and all of a sudden I am in my 50's dealing with menopause. Do you believe that I had it before my mom - she is going through it now. To me that is just sad.

I am doing everything that people told me to do - I have tried black conosh and it did nothing-I exercise, eat healthy and totally gave up caffeine (which really did reduce my hot flashes) - but it's not the same, I am not the same. I don't feel like me and I really miss me, so my question is more of a request. I have decided to try bioidenticals hormone therapy and I did find a doctor (6 hours away from me) but I am still kind of worried. My family doctor said no - due to the fact that it may bring out any mass or tumors, but she give me the feeling that she only cares about the drug companies more than what is good for me. There is a story to that but I won't get into that. She did recommend taken HRT made from pregrant horse urine - no thank you. I have met and read of people who regret taking them. So I would like to know woman who are currently taking it or have taken BHRT. I want to make my appointment for after winter so in May. Any advice would be great. I did read Suzanne Summers books, and I have been in TS Wiley website. Any advice or stories would help. I hope this make sense - thank you.

Hi,
Thank you for your question, and I hope you receive information from other women who have gone through "early" menopause due to medical conditions. I have talked with other women who did go through this as well, and can offer articles and stories for you. Many women have shared their success using BHRT (at any age).

We do have a discussion group for Menopause, if you are interested: https://www.empowher.com/groups/menopause

- Dr. Christensen: BHRT vs. conventional synthetic hormones
- Menopause and Hormones Resource Page

We would love to hear more about your progress using BHRT, and will continue to look for information and resources. Take care, and look forward to hearing from you again soon!
