I am fifty two years old and have not had a period in two years. Just two weeks ago my doctor injected the Natural Hormone Pellets, and prescribed 200mg. Pometrium (progesterone). However, I have gained about six pounds in only two weeks, my diet had not changed and I getting totally disgusted. Has anyone else experienced this? And does it seem to be temporaty?

Hi, Blh2009,

Welcome to EmpowHER! And thank you so much for writing.

Are the pellets you are mentioning the SottoPelle system? You may be interested in this thread, on which many women are talking about their experiences:

I understand that the weight gain is scary, but are you feeling different in any other ways?

Well it has been two weeks today, and my doctor gave me an injection of testosterone and estrogen to kick start things. He said it would be about two weeks before I would start getting the effects of the pellets. However I did start the promitrium the next day and have finished my twelve days. I will tell you that I have been quite irritable which has been noticed by my family. More like aggressive irritable. Told my doctor about this yesterday, and he suggested that I not get the testosterone injection. But beings there is more of a slow release with the pellets that should be fine.
Anyway, I took a fluid pill two days ago, and am making more of an effort to drink much more water. Today I am five pounds lighter, but of course I have about twenty more to lose.
As far as the type of pellets, I do not know, but I will find out. And yes, I have been doing much research on line, but seeing where people are gaining weight with the pellets. I wonder if it was the patch the month before I had the pellets put in, and the pomentrium which i just completed for the month. When speaking with my doctor yesterday and me explaining my weight gain he thought it could be the prometruim, so he now prescribing premerin half dosage, which he wants me to take for twelve days. I hope this will not be worse. Any thoughts?
