It has been like that forever. Should I be concerned?

I started having long periods the older i got, now at 46 I have 10-12 days of bleeding and horrible moods swings for 2 weeks prior to the beginning of my period. I too wish it was shorter and wasn't spending so much time depressed, irate, unfocused and tired.

Normal is different for everyone, but at 15 it sounds like you are having periods that are way too heavy and causing health problems. Do you have an OBGYN? Have you talked to your parents about this? I think you really need to see a physician a.s.a.p., but talk your parents about your periods and how heavy they are. Many teens go on birth control to help regulate their periods, which in your case seems to be affecting your health and confidence. Walking around feeling afraid of leaking is awful. I can't answer if you are okay, though, only a doctor can do that.

I have abnormal periods (i think) and have them lasting 7-12 days..usually they last 8 at an average, however, my loss of blood during them is very high and i get weak, depressed, and very tired. I go through about 6 pads a day, and always worried about them leaking through my clothes... (they always do at night) i have blood clots that are the size of my hand every 30 mins or less and always have to put toilet paper on top of my pads so i have a little more support... i sometimes have 2 or 3 periods in a month and if that happens it would be 5 days at one poimt and 7 later in the month. i dont know if it serious or not but it is rather uncomfortable and makes me really nervous making my anxiety worsen. this has been happening a lot more over the past year. it wasnt as bad when i started at age 12. I am 15, 5'3, and 98.7 llbs... am i ok?

Thanks will do. I'm on the implanon and this has been happening since Feb, a cycle every 2weeks.

Are you on an oral contraceptive? Sometimes a hormone imbalance can be created when birth control has too much/little estrogen/progesterone for your body. Whether you are or not, I'd recommend seeing your OBGYN as soon as you can. Having a 10 day period 2x a month isn't typical and must be interfering with your life in more ways than just your relationship.

I have a uterine fibroid. Could that be a factor?

A "normal" amount of menstrual bleeding is considered to be 4-5 days, whereas an "abnormal" menstrual bleeding is considered anything longer than 7 days.

With this in mind, women vary greatly with these "norms". Your norm may be 10 days, if this has been what you've always had as a period.

Do you have any other symptoms?
Do you go the the gynecologist every year for your annual exam?
