Plan B and Birth Control

I have been on birth control pills for 3 years and I always take them regularly. I was put on amoxicillin last month and was told it could interfere with my pill, so my boyfriend and I used condoms the whole month (I continued taking my birth control as well). I finished the antibiotics on the wednesday before I stopped my "active pills". I had sex without a condom on the night I took my last "active pill". I was worried about the fact that the antibiotics may still interfere so I took the plan b the next morning, on the first day of my sugar pills. Normally I get my period on wednesday or thursday of the sugar pills and it's now friday and still no period. I took a hpt last night and it was negative. Could the Plan B have messed up my period?

im in a similar situation...ive been having lower back pain, sometimes feels like burning, cramps...and ive been feeling some pain down in my abdomen, boobs hurt off an on, nausea sometimes, and some off and on headaches. Ive taken three pregnancy tests and theyve all come out negative. Ive never really had a consistant period so i dont know when to be expecting it....but after i took the pill last month, and about a week after i got off my period, i had another one. i dont know if that from taking that pill of not but since then, this month i havent spotted or anything. just wanting to know if the pill can delay your period for over a week?

Plan B can cause some irregular "bleeding patterns" which simply means your period can start early or late, usually by just one week.

Hi Anonymous,
In addition to the excellent information Cary Cook gave in her reply to the original question, here is an article that will help explain emergency contraception: Emergency Contraception Update, 2010
Good luck, and let us know how you are doing.

Hello Danigilmartin

Plan B can definitely affect your menstrual cycle, in several ways. Here is a quote from their official website:

Will I experience any side effects from Plan B® One-Step?

When used as directed, Plan B® One-Step is safe and effective. Side effects may include changes in your period, nausea, lower abdominal pain, fatigue, headache, dizziness and breast tenderness. Some women may have changes in their period, a heavier or lighter next period, or a period that is early or late. If your period is more than a week late, you may be pregnant. If you have severe abdominal pain, you may have an ectopic pregnancy, and should get immediate medical attention. (http://www.planbonestep.com/plan-b-faq.aspx)

Reading that makes me think that is the cause of the delay. We also have a fair amount of discussion on Plan B here on our site: http://bit.ly/9orJnJ.

I hope this helps. Thanks for writing, and good luck to you.

So if I was supposed to get my period (on birth control) in 2 days and then I took plan B that night because a condom broke and the next day I spotted and no, 4 days later, I do not have my period, should I be worried? Also, since I'm done with the sugar pills should I wait for my period before starting my next pack or no? Help!
