“Does January seem depressing to you?”

My husband wondered last night.

Hmmm … maybe a little.

There is a let down after the holidays, certainly.

Here in the Midwest, we are staring down the barrel of winter — short on sunshine and long on cold.

Add to that the expectation that, suddenly, because it is a New Year things will be different — and they are not.

Did you resolve to do something different in 2009 and now find it hard to keep the commitment?

That’s okay — we all do it. I resolved to post a Healthy New Year tip every morning, and if you’ll check the time stamp on this one, well, I didn’t quite make it.

So, is it time say, “Oh well, it’s too hard,” and give up?

No — it is not!

Stop beating yourself up! Give yourself credit for what you have accomplished so far, cut yourself some slack for today, move ahead, and do better tomorrow. As I often say,

Life is not about perfection.
It’s about moving in the right direction.

The month of January is a great time to think about where, who, and how you want to be this year and into the future.

Give yourself credit for moving in the right direction!
