The purpose of screening is early diagnosis and treatment. Screening tests are usually administered to people without current symptoms, but who may be at high risk for certain diseases or conditions.

At this time there are no screening guidelines for ear infection. Nonetheless, some children are followed closely to observe for and treat chronic otitis. Among these are children with either ]]>cleft palate]]> , ]]>Down syndrome]]> , or a variety of immune disorders that may predispose to ear problems.
