I really haven't had any health problems since I broke my ankle on 08 Feb 2005. For the first 3 years post operatively I could run around and play with my kids. I even could run for an hour non-stop. For the past 1-2 years, my ankle started to swell more and more, even with cutting out running. I didn't enjoy running out and about with my kids anymore. That was the "moment" I decided that I wasn't going to settle for less than my kids deserve. During this time I went to 2 different podiatrist's and sports medicine specialist. I have been on Motrin, Naproxen and Mobec. It was during the sports medicine doctor's appointment that I first learned that I had osteoarthritis in my repaired right ankle. I tried a steroid injection into the ankle, and this really only lasted 3 days before the pain was back. While this was going on, my right arch completely dropped adding to the pain and discomfort I was feeling. I didn't know that this website existed at the time or else I would've read thru the comments and stories of others who have had ankle fusion surgery. I am almost certain that this was the best option for me. My doctor said that I could wait for another 5 years, but I would be 5 years older and the chances would be that I would heal slower than now. I am 41 and am still young enough to recover from this.
i will be undergoing a ankle fusion (R) on the 31 st january 2011 i understand the operatioanal jargon and procedures (i think ) and i am very nervous . What i need to know is driving a car ...
