I was born healthy, however as I grew I was diagnosed with health conditions consistent with depresression and anxiety. I grew up in a family with certain dysfunctions that I could not adapt to easily which I believe caused the depression. My father was an absent from the home substance abuser and alcoholic. My mother experienced depression I believe as a survivor of domestic violence who did not receive help for the violence she experienced in the home. My first episodes of depression occured as I remember as a child where because of my differences I was rejected and attacked verbally a lot by my mother. As an adult I accepted those differences, and was involved a lot in extracurricular activities, but felt pushed away from my immediate family who offered little to no support. The depression grew as I moved out into the world away from my family because all I had known was the dysfunction and was not used to normal situations. I was adapted to my mothers cursing, attacks and rejection that I did not know how to communicate with people well for prolonged periods of time. I met a young man and married early to validate my father's absence from the home. The young man exhibited similar character qualities as my mother. These qualities I had become attached to. The relationship became physically abusive, and this relationship lasted 11 years with four children concieved during the relationship. I have been diagnosed with major depressive disorder during my early twenties. Depression has also accompanied the pregnancies diagnosed as pre-natal depression and post-partum depression. I have had a fairly normal physical medical history with recent abnormal pap smears with further testing resulting in no major medical problems.
