Patti recalls what occurred once she was transferred to the neurological institute suggested by her friend.
Patti:
When I arrived at Barrow’s I knew I was at some place different. I knew I was going to experience a difference in the level of care from the moment that I got there.
Michelle followed me over with my husband and they took me right up to ICU and it was apparent that I was going to have surgery within minutes and I did. I was actually rolled into surgery within 38 minutes.
During the time, the prep time before I was taken to surgery, the team of doctors came in, including Dr. Spetzler, and Michelle said to me and to Dr. Spetzler, “Her nose is really leaking quite a bit,” and he said, “Well we are going to take care of that but, could you show us?” And Dr. Spetzler asked me if I could show how it was leaking and it happened that if I would just turn my head a certain way and leaned just a bit it would just profusely leak.
So he said, “All right, we are going to have her show us how the nose leaks.” Well, probably every nurse and physician in a five-mile radius came running into the room because they wanted to actually see this type of leak because it’s a little more rare. So I did it. I bent over and the liquid poured out of my nose and they were all, you know, “Yeah, we got to fix that;” were just amazed that it leaked like that.
