Guide (reply to Anonymous)

Hello Anonymous,

What is the bleeding like? Is it like a period or only spotting?

Was the first sexual activity the very first time you ever had intercourse? Were you adequately lubricated?

Sometimes, enough friction or mild trauma during sexual intercourse can cause some bleeding. Inflammation of the cervix or some other abnormality, most of which are harmless, can also result in bleeding. Sometimes, though, vaginal bleeding after sex is a sign of a sexually transmitted infection.

Anonymous, if this happens infrequently, you have seen your gynecologist recently, and had normal results on routine Pap tests and sexually transmitted infection screenings, you have nothing to worry about.

Regards,
Maryann
