Uterine fibroids, which are noncancerous growth of the uterus, can cause heavy menstrual bleeding as well as prolonged menstrual periods. If your menstrual cycles continue to be irregular, or you start experiencing pelvic pressure or pain, think about scheduling an appointment with a gynecologist.
