Guide (reply to Anonymous)

Hello Anonymous,

Thank you for your question. As you may already know, sciatica is caused by compression of the spinal nerves in the lower back. The numbness in your right foot is caused by compression of the sciatic nerve, most likely the L4 and L5 nerve root.

Since the onset of foot numbness is new, consider consulting your primary care physician who may order imaging tests, such as a CT Scan or MRI to rule out a herniated disc as a new cause of nerve compression.

Regards,
Maryann
