People with lactose intolerance may feel uncomfortable 30 minutes to 2 hours after consuming milk and milk products. Symptoms range from mild to severe, based on the amount of lactose consumed and the amount a person can tolerate.

Common symptoms include

  • abdominal pain
  • abdominal bloating
  • gas
  • diarrhea
  • nausea

Milk allergy is an abnormal response by the body's immune system to milk and products containing milk.

Your symptoms sound more like those associated with a milk allergy than lactose intolerance.

Immediately after consuming milk, signs and symptoms of a milk allergy might include:

  • Hives
  • Wheezing
  • Vomiting

Signs and symptoms that may take more time to develop include:

  • Loose stools, which may contain blood
  • Diarrhea
  • Abdominal cramps
  • Coughing or wheezing
  • Runny nose
  • Watery eyes
  • Itchy skin rash, often around the mouth

I am not certain if canker sores and joint pain may be related to a milk allergy. Acne can be triggered by the hormones found in cow's milk.

Your doctor can do a skin test and a blood test to make the diagnosis of a milk allergy. If you do have a milk allergy, you must avoid milk and milk proteins.
