Is there a particular activity that precipitated the throbbing and intense sharp pain?
Does it go away on its own?
Does anything that you do relieve the sensation or worsen it?
I am thinking it may be caused by damage to a muscle or nerve in your neck. That might explain the intense sharp pain. The throbbing sensation makes me think blood vessel involvement.
I strongly suggest that you call your primary care physician, describe your symptoms and ask if you need to be evaluated. Your physician can examine you, check your blood pressure and ask you more questions to help make a diagnosis.
