Guide

I will try my best to explain. There are more than 100 varieties of human papillomavirus, with more than 40 different strains of HPV that specifically affect the genital area.

The virus causes an infection. In 90% of cases, the body's immune system clears HPV naturally within two years.

In some cases, a person's immune system does not clear the HPV infection. The virus remains in the cells in that person's body. This can lead to genital warts, recurrent respiratory papillomatosis, which is a condition of warts in the throat, and cervical cancer and cancer of the vulva, vagina, penis, anus and the back of the throat, including the base of the tongue and tonsils.
