Hello carame11,
One's blood pressure is the pressure of the blood within the arteries. It is produced primarily by the contraction of the heart muscle. Measurement is recorded by two numbers. The first number is the systolic pressure and is measured after the heart contracts and is the highest of the two numbers. The second number is the diastolic pressure and is measured before the heart contracts and is the lowest of the two numbers.

According to the American Heart Association, blood pressure should normally be less than 120/80 for an adult age 20 or over. Blood pressure can change from minute to minute with changes in posture, exercise, stress and sleep.

Heart palpitations are heartbeat sensations that feel like your heart is pounding or racing. They are usually not serious. However, it depends on whether the palpitations represent an abnormal heart rhythm, also referred to as an arrhythmia.
Normally, the heart beats 60 to 100 times each minute.
Caffeine, certain medications, including those used to treat hypertension and heart valve disease, such as mitral valve prolapse, can cause heart palpitations.

To answer your question, yes, a blood pressure reading of 99/78 is within the normal range. Systolic pressure of 120 to 139 and diastolic pressure of 80 to 89 is considered prehypertension. Systolic pressure of 140 to 159 and diastolic pressure of 90 to 99 is considered hypertension stage 1. A blood pressure with a systolic of 160 or higher and a diastolic of 100 or higher is considered hypertension stage 2. Hypertensive crisis is identified by a systolic pressure of higher than 180 and a diastolic pressure of higher than 110.

I hope that I have provided information that answers your question.
