Other causes, in addition to causes mentioned above, include anemia, anxiety, exercise, diet pills, cocaine, fever, hyperventilation, low levels of oxygen in your blood, nicotine and hyperthyroidism.
To help you and your doctor figure out how serious the palpitations are and what is the underlying cause- keep a record or diary. Record how often you have palpitations, when they happen, how long they last, your heart rate at the time of the palpitations and what you are feeling and doing at the time.
