Guide

Hello Anonymous,

Hyperhidrosis is the medical term for a condition in which a person sweats excessively and unpredictably. It may be due to the over activity of the hypothalamus, which is the part of the brain that controls body temperature, or over activity of the sympathetic nerves that control the sweat glands.

I do not know what types of testing your physician is planning. However, two common tests include:

Starch-iodine test. An iodine solution is applied to the sweaty area. After it dries, starch is sprinkled on the area. The starch-iodine combination turns a dark blue color wherever there is excess sweat.

Paper test. Special paper is placed on the affected area to absorb the sweat, and then weighed. The heavier it weights, the more sweat has accumulated.

Your physician is your best resource to prepare you for any tests, explain what to expect and what the results indicate.
