Guide

Hello Anonymous,
Ovarian cysts are fluid-filled sacs that can form in the ovaries. There are several different types of ovarian cysts. The most common is a functional cyst, which forms during ovulation.

Follicles produce the hormones estrogen and progesterone and release an egg when you ovulate. Sometimes a normal monthly follicle just keeps growing. When that happens, it becomes known as a functional cyst.

Endometriomas are cysts which develop as a result of endometriosis. Dermoid cysts and cystadenomas are types of cysts that are not related to the normal function of your menstrual cycle.

Normally, ovarian cysts do not cause infertility. Always consult your gynecologist, who knows which type of cyst you have.
