Guide

Hello Anonymous,

I can appreciate your concerns. Was your obstetrician able to determine the reason for your multiple miscarriages? Genetic abnormalities in the fetus cause most miscarriages.

Determining the cause, if possible, would have been helpful in the planning and maintaining your current pregnancy.

Here are some things you can do:

Be sure to take at least 600 mg of folic acid daily

Don't smoke and avoid secondhand smoke.

Don't drink alcohol

Limit your caffeine intake to one to two cups of coffee a day

Avoid radiation and poisons such as arsenic, lead, formaldehyde, benzene, and ethylene oxide.

Take special care to keep your abdomen safe while pregnant. Avoid sports that carry a higher risk for injury, such as contact sports and skiing, and always wear your seat belt.

Check with your doctor before taking any medication, including over-the-counter drugs, during pregnancy.

Avoid environmental hazards such as X-rays and infectious diseases.

The website for the Center for Human Reproduction in New York has information that I think you might find very helpful.
