Hello C4521,

The lighter than normal period which you had last month was probably due to the hormonal imbalance caused by missing two birth control pills and doubling a dose to make up for this.

If you were pregnant, you should have had a positive pregnancy test by now. The cells that form the placenta produce a hormone called hCG. This hormone is produced only during pregnancy. Levels can be detected in urine about 12 to 14 days following conception. In general the hCG levels will double every 72 hours. The level will reach its peak in the first 8 – 11 weeks of pregnancy and then will decline and level off for the remainder of the pregnancy.

You can wait and see if you get a normal period this month. Or you can schedule an appointment with your gynecologist now. Explain what has happened. Your physician may order blood tests to check hormone levels to determine the cause of your irregular period.

All the best,

Maryann
