Guide

Hello Anonymous,

I would like to welcome you to the EmpowHER community and thank you for reaching out to us to help answer your health question.

It sounds like the rectal bleeding is caused by hemorrhoids. How old are you?
At least half of adults have dealt with hemorrhoids by the time they reach the age of 50.

Anonymous, you might want to try some lifestyle changes and see if you get relief. Add fiber to your diet. Eat more fruits, vegetables and whole grains. Drink six to eight glasses of water and other fluids, but not alcohol, each day.
These two actions will soften your stool and increase its bulk. This will decrease the need to strain. Straining causes hemorrhoids or can worsen the symptoms.

Taking a fiber supplement, such as Metamucil, is another way to increase your intake of fiber. It is important to drink at least eight glasses of water or other fluids every day.

If you do not see an improvement and continue to experience rectal bleeding, please schedule an appointment with your physician.

Regards,

Maryann
