This is a SHARE that I can relate to.
I was diagnosed with breast cancer in May of this year. Lymphedema was one potential side effect that I dreaded. Prior to surgery, my surgeon gave me the option to go ahead with the removal of the axillary lymph nodes, which would lead to lymphedema, or wait for the pathology findings of the sentinel nodes. I chose to wait for the pathology report and fortunately the sentinel nodes were negative for cancer.
Breast cancer treatment can have harsh effects on the body as well as our body image. What a wonderful legacy Rachel Troxell has left all women who are fighting breast cancer. Anything to make us feel a little more beautiful is a great gift.
