Guide

Hello Anonymous,

Type 2 diabetes is the most common type of diabetes. The body does not use insulin properly. Initially, the pancreas makes extra insulin to compensate. But, over time, the pancreas cannot keep up and ends up not producing enough insulin to keep blood glucose at normal levels.

The American Diabetes Association suggests the following targets for most non-pregnant adults with diabetes:
A1C: 7%
A1C may also be reported as eAG: 154 mg/dl
Before a meal (preprandial plasma glucose): 70–130 mg/dl
1-2 hours after beginning of the meal (Postprandial plasma glucose)*: Less than 180 mg/dl

The A1C test looks at the average blood glucose over a 2 to 3 month period.

Regards,
Maryann
