I think it is crucial for parents to be aware of sudden and dramatic changes in their teenagers's behavior and mood. Parents need to know who their teens hang out with. I agree with you that boundaries and limits must be set and lines of communication must be open.
Adolescence is a difficult time of life for both teens and parents. Unconditional love and honest communication help both parents and teens get through.
