There are several common reasons a woman might experience dark brown vaginal discharge.
1) implantation bleeding occurs when the fertilized egg implants itself in the lining of the uterus. Color can be pink to brown. It is scanty and last only a few days.
2 )dark brown spotting can occurs during ovulation as the egg is released from an ovary. It usually last a few days.
3) endometrial bleeding occurs when some of the uterine wall was not shed completely during the menstrual cycle. It usually occurs just after the cycle ends or just before the next cycle begins. It is dark brown in color because the blood is old.
4) pelvic inflammatory disease is a serious condition that requires medical attention. PID is an infection in the lining of the uterus, fallopian tubes, ovaries, cervix and or the vagina.
5) cervical cancer is the most serious disease that is associated with a dark brown discharge.
