Guide

Hello Anonymous,

For the benefit of our readers, atrial fibrillation or a-fib is an irregular and often rapid heart rate that occurs when the two upper chambers of your heart or atria experience chaotic electrical signals. Generally, the treatment goals for atrial fibrillation are to reset the irregular rhythm to a normal rhythm and to prevent blood clots.

Abnormalities or damage to the heart's structure are the most common cause of atrial fibrillation.

Anonymous, has your doctor told you what is the cause in your case?

After electrical cardioversion, a physician may prescribe anti-arrhythmic medications, such as Flecainide or Propafenone, to help prevent future episodes of atrial fibrillation.

Did your cardiologist prescribe such a medication?

Regards,
Maryann
