Hello Anonymous,

There could be a chance for pregnancy if you had unprotected sex during ovulation. You could take a home pregnancy test if your period is late by more than seven days.

Anonymous, I suspect a hormonal imbalance may be the cause of your irregular menstrual periods.

Four hormones, estrogen, follicle-stimulating hormone, luteinizing hormone, and progesterone play key roles in the menstrual cycle.

Increasing levels of estrogen are responsible for the build up of the uterine lining. In the absence of pregnancy, decreasing estrogen loosens the support for the built up lining and helps to make it separate. Decreasing levels of progesterone, along with declining amount of estrogen, helps the built up lining of the uterus to separate and for menstruation to begin.

Anonymous, schedule an appointment with your gynecologist to be evaluated. Blood test to check hormone levels may be necessary to find out why your menstrual flow has been varied.

Regards,
Maryann
