Guide

Hello Anonymous,

Thank you for reaching out to us with your concerns following a hysterectomy. I will be happy to provide you with general information. However, your surgeon should have sent you home with discharge and postoperative orders. These instructions should have included activity limitations and when it would be safe to resume sexual intercourse.

It is advised that you avoid vaginal sex until after the post-operative check (about four to six weeks after the operation) to make sure the vagina is fully healed.

A hysterectomy is a treatment option for uterine fibroids, heavy or irregular menstrual periods, severe painful periods, cancer of the cervix, uterus or ovaries, endometriosis, adenomyosis, prolapse of the pelvic floor muscles, and pelvic inflammatory disease.

Anonymous, any change in your response to sexual intercourse depends the reason you had this surgery and what sex was like before.

Regards,
Maryann
