Guide

Hello Anonymous,

Thank you for seeking our advice regarding your concern. Any pronounced nodules or lumps in the breast should be checked out.

Lymph nodes are part of the lymphatic system which is part of the immune system. It collects fluid, waste material, and other things like viruses and bacteria, that are in the body tissues, outside the bloodstream.

The armpits have many lymph nodes. There is also a chain of lymph nodes that runs up the center of your chest, by your breast bone. This is called the internal mammary chain.

In the presence of an infection, injury, or cancer, the node or the group of lymph nodes in that area may swell or enlarge as they work to filter out the “bad” cells. This may be called lymphadenopathy.

Swollen lymph nodes tell you that something is wrong, but other symptoms help pinpoint the problem.

Anonymous, please schedule an appointment with your physician to have a breast exam.
