Hello Anonymous,

Thank you for coming to us with your concern. We do not judge. Our goal is to offer information.

It was not necessary to take an emergency contraceptive if you were having your period. This action is most likely the reason why your period is late.

The menstrual cycle is regulated by four hormones: estrogen, follicle stimulating hormone, luteinizing hormone, and progesterone. Each has a role.

If no pregnancy occurs, the levels of progesterone fall and this along with the decreasing amount of estrogen, helps the built up lining of the uterus to separate and for menstruation to begin.

Thus, you cannot become pregnant when you have unprotected sexual intercourse during your period.

Emergency contraception pills work by keeping a woman's ovary from releasing an egg for longer than usual. Most contain levonorgestrel, which is in a class of medications called progestins. It is a synthetic form of progesterone.

Anonymous, it may take a month or two for your menstrual cycle to return to normal. Also, excessive amounts of exercising can delay the start of your period.

Hope this information is helpful.
