Hello Anonymous,

Welcome to the EmpowHER community. Thank you for reaching out to us with your concern.

I am so sorry to hear that you have been dealing with this problem for two years without relief and complete recovery. From your description, it sounds like this area is infected and the prescribed antibiotics are not eliminating the infection.

A boil or skin abscess is a collection of pus that forms under the skin.
Often, antibiotics alone are inadequate in treating abscesses.

The primary treatments for boils include hot packs and draining the abscess but only when it is soft and ready to drain. But, only your physician knows if this treatment option will work for you, and only your physician should drain the boil under sterile conditions.

A "pilonidal cyst," a boil that occurs between the buttocks, is a special case. These almost always require medical treatment, including drainage and packing (putting gauze in the opened abscess to assure it continues to drain). Finally, any painful boil that is not rapidly improving should be seen by a health-care professional.

Regards,
Maryann
