Guide

Hello Anonymous,

Welcome to EmpowHER and thank you for reaching out to us with your concerns about your recent menstrual cycle irregularity.

A woman's menstrual cycle is regulated by hormones. The female reproductive hormones, estrogen, follicle-stimulating hormone, luteinizing hormone, and progesterone, along with the pituitary gland which produces and secretes the follicle-stimulating hormone and luteinizing hormone, have a role in the fine balance that regulates your monthly cycle.

Any imbalance or fluctuation in the levels of these hormones can cause irregularities. The early years of menstruation and perimenopause are two times in a woman's life when fluctuations occur.

Anonymous, if you just started menstruating or are in your late 40s or early 50s, normal fluctuations in hormones could be the cause.
Please consult your gynecologist if you have any further concerns or the symptoms persist.

Regards,
Maryann
