I really think stress is the cause. During periods of high stress, the body increases the production and secretion of cortisol. In response, certain functions considered "non-nonessential" are given low priority. The menstrual cycle is one of these functions.
Pre ejaculate is thought to contain sperm only if the male has had a recent ejaculation. Sperm can remain in his urethra. But, once he voids, that stow away sperm is eliminated.
