It sounds like up until now your menstrual cycle has been pretty consistent prior to now. And since you had protected sex, the likely culprit is an imbalance of hormones. A woman's menstrual cycle is regulated by hormones, so when there is a delay an imbalance has occurred.
The good thing is that your menstrual cycle has arrived. Now that is has arrived, are the other symptoms flow (heavy or light), color, pain, etc. what you normally experience?
I'm not sure if there is anything more to do. Wait to see what happens next month and keep your doctor abreast of any significant changes.
