If you do not get a period this month, please call and schedule an appointment with your gynecologist or primary care physician.
As you may know, the menstrual cycle is regulated by a precise balance of four hormones, which are the follicle stimulating hormone, lutenizing hormone, estrogen and progesterone.
A variety of factors can interfere with this balance and cause menstrual cycle irregularities.
Pregnancy is only one. Fluctuations during perimenopause is another. High levels of cortisol associated with high levels of stress, extreme weight gain or weight loss, travelling through time zones, and illness are other factors. Issues with the thyroid gland can cause a missed period.
