Guide

Hello Anonymous,

Welcome to EmpowHER and thank you for reaching out to our community for advice on weight loss following a hysterectomy.

There is no direct link between the surgical removal of the uterus and weight gain. A bigger factor can be lower metabolic rate associated with age. I can say, that at age 58, extra calories convert to pounds that I cannot burn off as easily as I did thirty years ago!

My advice to become aware of how many calories you consume in a day. Consider smaller portions. If you need to snack, choose fresh fruit or vegetables. Keep well hydrated by consuming at least eight glasses of water daily and avoid sugary drinks such as soda. Avoiding eating or snacking several hours before bedtime.

The most important factor is to burn more calories than you consume.

Increase your daily physical activity. Walking, jogging, gardening, tennis, and swimming are all good ways to burn calories.

Best,
Maryann
